Pass-Around Journal For Graduate
This wonderful gift will inspire your graduate throughout the next year. First, choose a journal or a planner according to your graduate’s preference and age. Little ones might enjoy receiving a coloring book with personal messages.
Then, leave the journal open near the entrance to the graduation party or “pass it around” during the party so people can add their personal sentiments.
Make this DIY graduation gift idea even more memorable: Collect messages from long distance relatives, teachers, bosses, and coaches by email in advance. Include these in the journal or message jar.
Collect a wonderful inspiration for every month (12), a weekly message (52), or a message for every day (365). Your graduate will enjoy seeing the congratulations and sound advice from their loved ones each and every day, week, or month.
Here are some great ideas for messages:

This is another fun, affordable, and memorable DIY graduation gift idea.
- a Mason jar
- a small square of foam board or cardboard
- black construction paper
- black ribbon as thick as the sides of the lid
- a 2018 tassel
Use a glue gun or double-sided tape to attach the black ribbon to the outside of the jar lid and attach the black construction paper to the cardboard or foam board. Middle school, high school, and college grads also love to receive cash, especially when you take the time to create a thoughtful presentation.
- Money, Sweet Money
Remove the candy from an assorted candy box and set the treats out on a pretty serving plate from our lovely selection of inspirational tableware. Leave the individual wrappers in the box. Replace the candy that was in the wrappers with cash. You can fold or roll up big bills, use shiny change, and include special notes and/or jewelry in the box.
- Stuffed Animal With Money Pouch For Graduation

- DIY Graduation Gift Umbrella
This one is really fun as a great surprise! Give your graduate a plain old umbrella and ask them to “test it” outside. When they open it, they find you’ve plastered money to the inside of the umbrella. You can use fishing line or ribbon to attach the money to the inside frame of the umbrella by using double-sided tape OR you can just put the bills loose inside the umbrella. When the recipient tests the umbrella, it literally rains cash down on them, making for great photo ops and many memorable smiles.
- Payload Backpack
Since many campuses require see through backpacks, this is a fun and functional gift that will help your graduate stay organized and comply with rules as they go off to high school or college. You can include school supplies and of course, MONEY.
Pay For An Hour Of Financial Counseling
Speaking of money, all the cash in the world is only a good graduation gift if the graduate knows how to manage it properly for the future. When you offer to pay for a one-hour session with a trusted advisor, your graduate will start out their journey after college or high school with firm financial footing, a gift that truly lasts a lifetime.
DIY Graduation Gift Coffee Mug
For the high school or college graduate, it’s nice to gift an individual cup coffee maker they can use in their dorm or apartment. For all ages, a creatively decorated mug is a gift they’ll treasure each and every morning! If you’d rather send a Precious Moments coffee mug, we have some wonderful options here.
How To Make A Graduation Coffee Mug
- A white or a light-colored ceramic mug
- Oil-based permanent markers in the colors of your choice
- Rubbing alcohol
Remove labels and wash mug with dish soap and water.
After you dry the mug, apply rubbing alcohol with cotton or a washcloth to ensure a clean surface for the markers.
Draw your design or quote on the mug.
You can find great stencils and ideas for designs online.
If you make a mistake, use the rubbing alcohol to remove your error and just start again! After your design is final, allow the mug to air-dry for at least twenty minutes.
Place the dry mug in a cold oven to avoid cracks, set the timer for twenty minutes, and then heat the oven to 350 degrees.
After twenty minutes, turn the oven off and allow the mug to cool inside. Once the oven is completely cooled, repeat the baking process by turning the oven back up to 350 degrees, baking the mug for 20 minutes, and then turning off the oven while allowing the mug to cool again in the oven.
P.S.: You can seal the mug with acrylic sealant, but this is optional. Keep in mind that most sealants are not food safe, so be careful not to spray the inside or the top of the mug. Markers are often not labeled food safe either, so be sure to decorate on the outside of the mug, below the rim, only.
